TTRPG Galaxy24; my set up
I jumped on the Galaxy24 meteor (idea by Chris McDowall) for this year and finished the first week. It is fun!
Here is the set up for my space travel
The Procedure (by Chris McDowall):
- Use a very cheap diary
- Each week is a star system
- Monday is the star
- Tuesday - Friday are Locations (Planets, Moons, Space stations, Anomalies, etc.)
- Saturday & Sunday are for Hooks
The Mantra
"Space is a low mountain, a muddy shoreline and a heath."
(Honestly I don't know why I put in that, but it's always better to have one cryptic phrase more to get your brains working)
The Setting corners
- Technology is complicated, expensive, at times past it's prime and broken most of the time (junkyard future)
- There is no Space-Council and no Empire that spans multiple planets (No power for nobody ... in space!)
- Everything is somehow strange and the nice, big cities are usually far far away (Towns, fringes, no mans land)
If in doubt we will either look at Trafalgar by Angélica Gorodischer, or at the stories from James Tiptree Jr. (Alice B. Sheldon).
Random-Tables
I'm using a d66 table, which I've based on a fictional pantheon I've once created. The idea for that came after reading this post by Lizardmandiaries.
In addition I'm using two d12 Spark tables.
Those three tables serve as inspiration nests as well as a help for name generation through mixing the syllables of different random rolled words.
Forgive me, but I will not write those down here, because I'm lazy.
If you don't want to built your own tables, I'd recommend using the ones from Ask-the-Stars.
Colored pencils
Yeeeeeess! Finally a reason to use those!
And the rest runs day by day.
I'm not sure yet where to put my results after finishing the week. Maybe I will type some systems up here or make a google doc.
We'll see ...
If you are looking for some creative project this year, why not discover a galaxy for yourself as well?
I'd like to see what cool planets you might come up with!
Until next time, space crickets!
