Two 24XX modules, tinkering hiatus and the RPG plan for the months to come
So, I've been busy lately.
This week I'll be entering back into the working world again and I needed to organize some things for that. This deadline also proved to be a good motivation to get some shit done RPG wise.
I've created two mini hacks for Jason Tocci's 24XX system!
20XX Excavate, where in you can crawl into the depths below the city of your choice to find horrors and wonders alike.
And 1960 Devolution, which is my lo-fi rip-off version of the Bioshock games.
They are free on itch. Go get them if you want!
You know, I'm not the biggest fan of productivity and I don't regret having thousand of open projects flying around, which will most likely never get finished. But I have to say that it was a good feeling to put this two little mini games beyond the finish line. Jason made it really easy and rewarding for people like me to finish a hack for once with his system. If you are into RPG tinkering I highly recommend you to try your hand on your own 24XX as well. The size of 2-4 pages is a realistic goal and it really helps with learning to focus on the important bits you want to show. Great fun!
However, I've decided to go into a game tinkering hiatus after I've finished the two modules.
There are definitely some projects left, that I want to finish at some point. Namely a Blighters hack, I've started and never picked up again; a 24XX version of the obscure german Opus anima RPG; and a Sepulchre version of Spire. But now is not the time for that.
Instead I want to focus more on playing and running games. From all the ideas and mechanics I've posted here so far, I've tested close to none at the actual table.
That's something I want to change. So I'll have to face the real horror of any game table. Scheduling! (This is also something I'll be doing a lot on my new job. So now is a good time to finally learn that shit)
I think that won't change the way I post here that much. There will still be some random tables and unfinished ideas here and there. Maybe I will try to put in some short reports of gaming sessions.
We'll see, we'll see.
I've assembled a set up of games that I want to bring a fair share of to the table in the coming year:
- The 24XX games. I own most of Jason's modules, as well as some hacks like BioXX: The Absicion, Fléche, Micro, 1600: Who goes there, 1800, 18XX Rail ways or my own two. I don't plan to play each of them individually, but will try to bring them to the table in different combinations.
- Blighters. This will be my heist game from now on. There will be some touches of Jason's The Venusian Job, like the Intel gauge, but the main focus will be basic Blighters. I want to see how much fun I can get out of this in the long run.
- Into the Odd, Electric Bastionland or Mythic Bastionland? With two fun ItO campaigns going and the Mythic Bastionland quickstart available for free this was a hard decision. But for now I want to bring my focus back to Electric Bastionland and really dig my teeth into it for a while. As well in the longform expedition style, as in the one shot Blighted Bastiards style. AND before I touch anything related to Mythic Bastionland one of my group has to start a Kingdoms campaign with me! Or I'll never come to play this.
- Story game wise I want to try out Noirlandia and Ben Robbin's Kingdom, though I think these two are best played face to face.
- And then of course there is Superkalleider. Haven't decided yet where and when this will come into action, but I'm sure that it's gonna be delightfully weird.
So that's it. Mighty plans, built to crumble.
But hey, maybe it'll help me with getting at least some games more to the table.
Anyway, eight-legged greetings and chelicerate kisses for you, crickets!
